Former National Football League Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Plea in Attempted Murder Case
Former NFL player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an attempted murder accusation related to a gunfire that happened in May, with his attorney submitting a innocent declaration on his behalf.
Correctional records in Essex County, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his move to Florida. Brown, a highly popular athletes in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was detained after being arrested in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has previously lodged a formal innocent response to the murder attempt allegation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday morning for a bond session, Eiglarsh added.
Based on his arrest warrant, Brown is accused of taking a pistol from a protection guard after a public figure boxing event in May and firing a couple of bullets at a individual he had clashed with before. The alleged individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed investigators that one shot touched his throat.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was simply safeguarding himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was forced to take were exclusively in self-protection against the reported individual’s aggressive conduct. Brown was assaulted that time and acted within his legal privilege to protect himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not promptly detained because originally police did not consider Nantambu as a victim. It not until later in May that Nantambu gave a detailed testimony about the event to officers and pointed out Brown as the gunman, the report states.
Based on his digital content, Brown had been staying in Dubai for a number of months. In a post after the confrontation, Brown said he was defending himself because he was “attacked by numerous persons who tried to steal my valuables and bring personal harm to me.”
A level two attempted murder accusation in the state of Florida imposes a highest 15-year prison term and up to a $10,000 penalty in the instance of a conviction.
Brown has encountered several judicial problems over the period. He earlier had been charged of physical attack of a truck driver, multiple abuse allegations, failure to pay family payments and other events.
During a recent contest with the Buccaneers against the opponents, Brown removed his uniform, shoulder pads and handwear and exited the field, leading to his dismissal by the Buccaneers and virtually concluding his NFL tenure.
Brown, who completed twelve years in the NFL, was an elite wide receiver who spent most of his tenure with his team. Throughout his time, Brown had over 900 grabs for more than twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one yards, the twenty-eighth greatest of history. He was a multiple-time Pro Bowl selection.
