Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Dies
A woman who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop in Birmingham has died, authorities verified.
The victim, who was 34, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 9 PM GMT on Friday, according to police statements.
The suspect, 21, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, charged over the violent incident.
Originally charged of attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
Authorities stated officers would be around the city centre on Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.
Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, identified as British citizen of Black ethnicity, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, dark headwear, athletic shoes and rucksack.
Attack Site Details
The stabbing happened outside the Bullring shopping centre, across from the main entrance of New Street railway station.
Police said they classified it as a random violent act with investigators stating efforts continue to determine the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
Shalini Doal, who works nearby, recounted paramedic and police activity when she finished her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.
She described the scene as "quite chaotic", and said co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances around 9 PM.
"Many my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our security is compromised fundamentally, here in the city centre."
Another individual, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came the city quite frequently to see his girlfriend who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.
"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.
"She doesn't drive and works at all of the big music venues... and to think a totally random act occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
